Ed Topp is principal research scientist (Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada) and has courtesy professorship appointments in the Department of Biology (University of Western Ontario) and the Department of Soil and Water Sciences (U of Florida in Gainesville). His research concerns the interface between agriculture and human and environmental health, and has generated over 260 co-authored publications. He has led several national studies concerning the fate and management in agro-ecosystems of pharmaceuticals and pathogenic and antibiotic-resistant bacteria carried in fertilizers of animal and human origin. He is the project coordinator for the Genomics Research and Development Initiative on antimicrobial resistance, a key component of the innovation pillar of the Canadian Federal Framework for action on antimicrobial resistance. Ed is a member of the Science Advisory Board for JPIAMR and a designated FAO/WHO “expert” for foodborne antimicrobial resistance. He will take care of aim 3b.
